Professional LED lighting for the Jeep Wrangler.

The Wrangler JL (2018 onward) carries a reputation as the easiest 4×4 to modify, and when it comes to lighting that reputation is deserved. The factory auxiliary switch bank (AUX 1 / 2 / 3 / 4) is pre-wired to a dedicated fuse block with relay outputs, letting installers wire auxiliary lamps without cutting into the body loom at all.

The AUX switch bank — the Wrangler advantage

Every JL and JT (Gladiator) Wrangler from 2018 onward has a factory AUX switch bank in the overhead console. Four switches, each wired to a dedicated relay (20A, 20A, 20A, 10A) and fuse in the engine bay.

Positive leads for each AUX circuit are accessible from the engine bay fuse block; ground is taken from the main chassis ground stud. Total install time for twin driving lamps + a light bar + a rear work-lamp: under 45 minutes.

The AUX system is ignition-aware — disable automatically when the key is out, which means one less risk of flat batteries after a night stop.

Mounting options

Three main mounting positions on a JL Wrangler:

- **Windshield A-pillar**: factory pre-drilled M6 points on 2018+ JLs for a pair of 5–7" lamps or small cubes. Clean, low-profile, effective in low-speed off-road. - **Roof rack / hard top**: the standard three-bar hard top has factory M6 points across the cross-bars. Fits a 32–42" bar without drilling. - **Bumper / bull bar**: Mopar and aftermarket steel bumpers have integrated lamp-mount tabs. Fits a 20–30" bar between the fog-lamp housings.

On convertible variants (sport top), the A-pillar mount is limited by the soft-top geometry — check clearance before ordering a 7" housing.

The American vs European wiring difference

Wranglers imported from the US have 12V systems but different fuse markings and a slightly different AUX pin-out than the European-spec JLs built for the EU market.

European JL fuses use DIN 72581 numbering, US imports use SAE mini/midi/maxi. Fuse amp ratings are identical; physical fit is different. Stock both variants if you service Wranglers of mixed origin.

The AUX switch coil voltage is 12V on both variants; the difference only shows in the fuse-box layout.

Off-road ergonomics

The Wrangler's design philosophy is "you'll modify it anyway, so we make that easy." The cabin has wiring channels pre-routed from the dashboard to the B-pillar and out to the tub sides, ready for aftermarket switch panels.

For a fitter: use the existing channels. Don't run new loom under the carpet and across the centre console — the factory runs already go where you need them, and crossing the ABS/airbag harnesses is how you end up with confusing faults months later.

The Wrangler's AUX switch bank was designed by people who knew their customers would add lamps. It's the closest the industry comes to a 4×4 fitted as 'retrofit ready'.
