Mega Trucks Festival — Den Bosch, Netherlands.

Mega Trucks Festival at the Brabanthallen in 's-Hertogenbosch is the indoor big sister to Truckstar's outdoor summer meet. Held every May since 2014, it's the largest indoor truck show in Europe — hundreds of custom-built trucks, American rigs, heavy-haul specials and vintage commercial vehicles displayed across three exhibition halls.

When and where

Mega Trucks Festival runs annually over three days in mid-May, Friday through Sunday.

Location: Brabanthallen, Diezekade 2, 5222 AK 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Three separate halls: Hall 1 for American trucks and vintage; Hall 2 for custom European; Hall 3 for heavy-haul and specials. Plus outdoor parking with additional display trucks.

Setup runs Thursday; public opens Friday morning.

The American-truck scene in Europe

Mega Trucks is the single biggest gathering of US-import Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner and Western Star rigs in Europe. Most are imported and converted for EU road-legal operation — which involves extensive relighting, because US lighting spec differs fundamentally from ECE.

Typical conversions include:

- Replace US amber side-markers (ECE R7 / R148 compliant) - Replace US red-and-amber rear indicators with full-amber (ECE requires amber indicators; red indicators are not legal in the EU) - Add ECE R48-compliant end-outline marker lamps - Add European-pattern fog lamps if fitted to the vehicle - Replace the US headlamp units with ECE R149 / R112 versions

Mega Trucks is where installers who specialise in this kind of conversion show their work. Worth visiting even if you don't work on US imports, because the creative lighting solutions (hidden LED strips, integrated aux panels in chrome grilles) are uncommonly good.

Indoor vs outdoor: why it matters

Truckstar's outdoor July setting is about volume and ambience. Mega Trucks's indoor hall atmosphere is about detail: lit up, dust-free, at eye level, under controlled lighting. It's where you see exactly how a paint scheme works, how a chrome surround is finished, how a beacon's flash pattern reads in realistic ambient light.

For aftermarket-lighting suppliers, this is where customers bring cameras to document each beacon's output and flash signature. Expect the serious hobbyist-turned-customer to show up with a detailed list of requirements.
